Overall objective:
To influence private sector institutions, stakeholders and decision makers on policy, laws, regulations and programmes for the benefit of land reform communities at a national, regional and local level by:
- Sensitising beneficiaries on a specific issues relating to land reform and rural development
- Influencing decision-makers on policy and implementation.
- Suggesting changes and alternative to legislation and policy frameworks or processes that negatively affect beneficiaries
- Exposing problems that need to be addressed by others.
- Defending the rights and benefits of beneficiaries.
Lobbying
Objective:
To influence policy and legislation in collaboration with like-minded organization, networks and community members that will create an enabling environment for community development.
Networking
- Recognizing that experiences within the land and agrarian reform context have been different across the country, resulting in local variations in how people are engaged with the current context, Nkuzi would need to work with variety of groups in variety of circumstances to seek commonalities and differences and avoid linear narrow packed outcomes.
- Nkuzi operate from the premise that change will happen through local struggles that will influence the official discourse in relation to policy and any practice affecting the order and the use of space
Nkuzi recognize that networking adds value in the form of:
- Facilitating exchange of information, skills, experience, materials etc
- Coordinating activity and reduces duplication of effort
- Bring together a diverse range of people who would not otherwise meet
- Providing peer support, encouragement, motivation and professional recognition
- Providing critical mass for change
Objectives Of Collaboration Intiatives
- To support the building of an influential (hegemonic) understanding and analysis of the different rural realities/ complexities / economies in which participate organizations operate;
- To influence government's rural development policies and programmes through the participating organization local struggle and practice as a primary form of advocacy in sharing and advocating an understanding of different rural realities/ complexities/economies
- To develop and use strategies and methods that ensure that None Government Organisation (NGO) and community service organization (CSO) participates as effective knowledge brokers for empowering social formation in rural development advocacy
- To identify and implement concentrate support strategies and mythology that develop, strengthen and improve small holder production system, tenure arrangement ( including institutions) and livelihoods;
- To create ongoing space to share experience and develop alternative approaches(processes and methods) and outcomes that support agrarian transformation
Strategies To Achieve The Objectives
- Engage formations of small holder families to support the development of an analysis of their household strategies (using and action research approach- see methodology)
- Support these formation I local and joint actions that engage various stakeholders to influence the understanding of rural economy
- Jointly identify key issues / areas of practical engagement in local areas that the group can take forward in practice in supporting the building of local economies
- To ensure good documentation of action research and analysis;
- To write up leaning on processes and model, and ensure there is publications and effective public use and sharing
- To identify and lobby for opportunities for participating organization and other support group to influence policies and programme favorable to small holder farming sector in the economy
- Develop share and agree on appropriate field action research methods and document their effectiveness
- Develop a knowledge based for participants by saucing up to date information and presenting and communicating and sharing it into accessible and useable form
- Host workshops locally and across local areas to share and analyse information regularly
Strategies
- Provide a co-ordination function through establishment of a steering committee for the programme and a core team of skills that participants can draw on
- Host dialogues in local, province and national forums that present key issues confronting the development of transformed agricultural production systems that would contribute to agrarian transformation and land reforms
